Louis Van Gaal is understood to have been told by the Red Devils’ hierarchy that he would not lose his position in the coming summer.
There have been many occasions in the ongoing season when it has looked like Van Gaal is on the brink of getting axed and one more bad game would just be it. But, every time, with some sort of performance, the Dutch coach has managed to save himself.
One will have to be a little generous to him though. Managing United is definitely not the easiest job in the world considering the fan following of the club and the expectation to deliver in every game.
And, as far as Van Gaal is concerned, he has taken the criticism right from the very beginning of his tenure, but, he’s hung in there and hasn’t shown too much of frustration at any point. Yes, he has not had an extraordinary spell, but, if assessed result wise, United have never been at the rock bottom in the last one and half years.
Whilst some United fans have confessed to being so bored of watching United play that they spent evening kick-offs betting on US horse racing at StanJames instead, United have hovered around the 4th / 5th spots, and still have a good chance of making it into the Champions League.
In the ongoing season, with the amount of criticism that has happened of Van Gaal, it gives the impression as if United is somewhere in the bottom half of the standings. But, no, they are still in the race to make it to Champions League and they might end up walking away with Europa League too, their maiden Europa League.
So, he has been okay, has Van Gaal, but, the thing is that with a team like United, the expectations are always at the highest and the supporters or even the media just don’t show enough patience through the period of transition.
United board has provided Van Gaal with the funds that he has wanted and the Dutchman has landed the players of his choice as well. So, it’s only sensible now to give him the time to build a squad with those resources.
