Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to end his Gunners association on a high note. Earlier in April, the Frenchman announced that he would be ending his 22-year reign with the Gunners during the summer and the 68-year-old is now keen to end his spell on a positive note with Europa League success being a possibility.
Arsenal are due to visit Atletico Madrid for the second leg of their Europa League semi-final and the tie is still very much alive with a 1-1 draw at the Emirates last week. The Gunner boss was deeply disappointed by the away goal conceded, but the players have remained optimistic of overturning the tie in Wenger’s 250th European game.
Aside from this, the Gunners do not have much to play for in terms of league position but they can firm their sixth spot ahead of Burnley by picking up a victory in their remaining three fixtures. Wenger has done a credible job with the north London giants over the years and the next manager would unquestionably have the pressure by his side.
The likes of Luis Enrique, Mikel Arteta, and Leonardo Jardim have emerged as potential candidates for the vacancy but whoever takes over the reigns can expect a tighter summer budget with the club having broken their transfer record twice over the course of the past 12 months. Alexandre Lacazette was initially the club’s record signing in July 2017 before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s arrival last winter.
