Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Ian Wright believes Liverpool could face the prospect of losing Mohamed Salah during the summer transfer window. The Egypt international has been in stupendous form for the Reds in his debut season, and he has already contributed 36 goals and a further 10 assists in all competitions.
As a result, the speculation over his future has intensified with Spanish sources suggesting that the attacker could follow the same route as Philippe Coutinho. The Brazil international left Liverpool for Barcelona during the winter transfer window, and there has been a suggestion that Salah could also seal a move to La Liga, but with Barca’s arch-rivals Real Madrid.
Writing in his column on The Sun, Wright was worried about a Coutinho repeat, he penned:”Ironically it is his performances on Merseyside which could — and almost certainly will — give them a huge problem before too long. Are you telling me when the rebuilding begins at Real — and they need it — he won’t be at the top of their wanted list?I’ve a horrible feeling that, as far as Liverpool and Klopp are concerned, they will have another Philippe Coutinho situation on their hands sooner rather than later.”
Despite Wright’s comments, it appears that Salah could stay put with the Reds for the upcoming season after citing that it was always his ambition to succeed in the Premier League. The right-sided forward has stressed that he is leaving the dream of representing the Reds, and he is aiming to achieve trophy success with the Merseyside outfit.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have come to close to a couple of honours in recent seasons, and their chances of claiming silverware this term lie on their progress in the Champions League. The Reds have been drawn against Manchester City in a tricky quarter-final tie, but with the form Salah has been in, the club will fancy their chances of beating the Citizens, who are cruising towards this season’s Premier League title.
