Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp reckons that Chelsea’s only hope of getting a win against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium on Sunday will be to stop midfielder Mesut Ozil from being at the top of his game.
The German has been in inspirational form in the 2015-16 season. He had a reputation for assists before his move to Arsenal and it has only been enhanced with this season. Ozil is on course to creating a new record for the number of assists in a single campaign. Former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry holds this record, but Ozil is already up to 16 for the season.
Chelsea have improved under Guus Hiddink and the Dutchman has made the club tough to beat once again. They are unbeaten in the last five matches, but Redknapp reckons that the prospect of facing Arsenal will be a totally different proposition. As table leaders, Arsenal have immense confidence going into the match. However, teams like Stoke City have been able to get points off the gunners in the last few matches. In fact, Arsenal have had no wins in the last two league outings and this puts tremendous pressure on the team. They can reclaim top spot in the table with a win over the blues.
Redknapp says that Chelsea with their low confidence should focus on stopping Ozil rather than beating Arsenal at their own game.“Managers preparing to face Arsenal will be concerned with stopping Ozil, who has been the key for them this season. Ozil is one of a few players which teams have to give special attention to.You cannot let players of his quality have the freedom of the park because he will destroy you, that’s what he’s been doing to teams. If Matic and Mikel start, they have to attach themselves to Ozil because if they don’t he will be the one everyone’s talking about at full-time,” said Redknapp.
