Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has won the Premier League Goal of the Month for December 2021 for his strike against Southampton. The Frenchman scored the first goal of the match on the way to a 3-0 home victory over the Saints.
Arsenal were able to end a run of two successive defeats with the win over the Saints. The big victory kicked off a run of five straight league wins and six consecutive games in all competitions until the controversial 2-1 home loss to Premier League champions Manchester City.
Lacazette is the first choice striker at Arsenal these days after Pierre-EmerickAubameyang fell out with manager Mikel Arteta. Aubameyang is presently with Gabon at the AFCON (African Cup of Nations) tournament in Cameroon. Gabon are already closing in on a place in the round of 16 after a return of four points. They have one win and one draw from two group games.
Without Aubameyang in their squad, the Gunners moved into the top four as a result of the recent winning run but they have dropped to fifth spot after West Ham United beat Norwich City 2-0 at home on Wednesday courtesy the pair of goals from in-form Jarrod Bowen either side of the half-time interval. As things stand on the Premier League log, West Ham United are two points better than London rivals Arsenal having played a game more than the Gunners. Arsenal have an outstanding game against Wolves at home.
