SALAH, JOTA FAIL TO SCORE

The Liverpool duo of Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota are the top two leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season but they could not find the back of the net during their league clash with hosts Leicester City on Tuesday night. Jota and Salah could not add to their respective league tallies as their Liverpool side suffered defeat for only the second time this season. The Reds were on the receiving end of a 1-0 win thanks to the goal from Nigerian-born Englishman Ademola Lookman. Lookman is on a season-long loan deal at Leicester City from German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

Ahead of the Leicester City game, Salah was on 15 goals, while Jota had 10 goals. At the end of proceedings, the two players maintained their tallies and they are still the top two leading marksmen in the division. Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is still the nearest player to the two Liverpool players with nine goals.

For the Leicester City game, Liverpool were left to the missed chances especially the usually reliable Salah who saw his first half penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel after he was tripped by Nigerian midfielder Wilfried Ndidi. Salah then hit the post with the saved effort from Schmeichel before his third attempt to put the ball in the back of the net ended with the ball going out wide via his right foot.

Apart from Salah, Mane and Jota also had chances to score as the Leicester City makeshift defence stood firm to lead the Foxes to victory and a place in the top half as far as the Premier League standings is concerned. Lookman repaid the faith shown by the  manager with the Foxes’ winning goal of the game coming just after his entrance. His goal dented the title challenge of Liverpool who are now nine points behind Manchester City with a game still to be played.
